Adhocracy is Vitalstatistix’s annual artist hothouse, supporting the creative development of new experimental and multidisciplinary arts projects from around Australia.
2020 is anything but a usual year and this year we have selected 28 incredible projects for support, three times more than a usual.
These projects explore a wide range of contemporary themes spanning race and racism, health and the wellness industrial complex, humans and the non-human, and some really important personal-political explorations. The practices include theatre, performance art, choreography, sound art and composition, live art, podcasts, video, installation, manifestos, poetry, and social practice.
Instead of joining us for four days in Port Adelaide, the artists are undertaking a micro-residency wherever they are located and in whatever fashion works for them.
Each project will create one artistic outcome for online publication – with artists set a challenge to make this response in the equivalent of four days. This digital work is not the entirety of the project (in any measure! Many of these projects will go onto further development and presentation in the future); nor is it a work-in-progress. Artists have been encouraged to think in the realms of artistic catalogue meets festival of ideas meets archive of a wild year.
Vitalstatistix will publish seven of these beautiful bite-sized offerings each Friday morning during the month of September. Side-by-side, we are holding four Adhocracy Live+Local events, each Friday evening.
These gatherings will conjure the spirit of our lab of previous years – they will include talks, panels, provocations, showings and performances from all our participating artists. So, if you’re in South Australia put aside Friday nights in September for a trip to Port Adelaide – and if you’re not here, we will be livestreaming selected parts of each event. Join us!
